Pike's Peak
The dominant background feature in Colorado Springs is Pike's Peak. Zebulon Pike who discovered it in 1806, never made it to the top (14,100 feet). But we did!
Pike's Peak in MayOf course, we had a little help that didn't exist in 1806. We rode to the top on the Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway. This Cog Railway was opened in 1891 and is the highest railway in North America and the highest cog (or rack) railway in the world. The pictures directly below show what the train looks like on a typical climb. Our trip took place during a snow storm.
