Our October 2007 trip to Italy was varied and delightful - both
in the places we visited and the company we enjoyed. Our dear friends from
Northern Virginia, Bob Kelly and April Young, graciously invited us to join them
on Bob's 60th birthday celebratory visit to Italy.
The trip began with a visit to Venice, then we rented cars and drove to Arezzo
in Tuscany, where we spent several days at the wonderful
Villa de Fonti in
Quarrata. From this idyllic spot, where we celebrated Bob's birthday with
a professionally prepared meal and lots of good wine, we made day trips to
Assisi, Cortona, Florence, Montepulciano and Pienza.
After a glorious ten days, we left Tuscany behind and took the train to Rome
where we spent several days "doing as the Romans do" - exploring the wonders of
Roma - ancient and modern, eating wonderful food, drinking plenty of wine, and
enjoying the company of good friends. It was Bob's birthday, but this trip
was a gift for us.
