Cairns
Cairns (pronounced
like "cans") is the capital of the region in Australia known as the Far North -
one of 17 regions in the state of Queensland. It is a small city with a
population less than 150,000, but it is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef -
often called the eighth wonder of the world. We stayed at the
Hilton Cairns Hotel
located on the waterfront and overlooking Trinity Inlet and the Cairns Marina.
In addition to visiting the GBR, we enjoyed The Esplanade and got a guided tour
of the oldest rain forest on earth - the 140 million year old Daintree
Rainforest.
